![]() ![]() Proverbs 12:22 says: “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are His delight.” But he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honour.” 2. Don’t forget what Proverbs 29:23 says: “One’s pride will bring him low. Thus, always, over and over again, you as a believer must fall on your knees and ask God to deliver you from every trace of conceit and undue self-esteem. In James 4:6, the Scripture warns against pride: “…God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble”. On different occasions, the Scripture informs you that God resists the proud. Pride can take various forms: pride of intellect, pride of power, pride of appearance, spiritual pride as well. Proverbs 16:5 emphasizes this as an abomination to the Lord: “Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord be assured, he will not go unpunished”. Pride is an arrogant, boastful, and overestimation of one’s own values and abilities. The act is when you put yourself on a platform above others. It was through Pride that the devil fell in the first place, hence the saying “pride is the root of all evil”. Haughty eyes simply mean to have pride or possess a proud look. Let’s take them one after the other, shall we?! 1. But these seven mentioned are expected to be importantly noted by believers, including you. The word “abomination” appears 174 times in the Bible. These, though are outlined in Proverbs as what God hates, they are not a complete list of things God detests or that are an abomination to God. “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.” Proverbs 6:16-19 gives you a clear outline of the things God hates. There are certain things God detests, they are very disgusting to Him just the same way He feels about idolatry. You must remind yourself that as much as God is the God of love, He likewise has the capacity to hate. Yes, God hates! Although He is the all-loving God, the tender and compassionate God rich in mercy and abounding in grace, He is also the God who hates and abhors sin in every form. Nevertheless, it is profoundly important that you understand that man’s hatred and God’s hatred are extremely different, just the way mine is different from yours. I am sure you also have lists of what you dislike, what you really dislike and what you hate as well. This list isn’t exactly everything and can change too. And then, there are other things I hate, they include sin, Satan (I really hate that creature), injustice, and many others. There are some things I don’t like things like long and boring classes, uncomfortable clothes, yeah, don’t say really?! Then, there are things I really don’t like, they are lies, being broke (I really dislike that), being ill, and some others. While you may hate something, I may love it, and vice-versa. Before I mention things I don’t like, you must understand these things are relative. We all have things we like and love, and there are also things we detest and hate. ![]()
